Honesty is the best policy because you can use it to hurt people's feelings without seeming like a complete asshole. Instead of using little white lies to protect a friend's feelings, you can admit she looks fat in those jeans and that the birthday card she sent really wasn't hilarious, just full of puns.
Just try to not be too honest about your own feelings and dreams or else you'll be vulnerable which is akin to death.
