Red Flags

Unless your new boyfriend is already a friend or family member, it's hard to trust that he is who he says he is, so you need to look out for red flags.  Aliases, storage units in other states, and a love of children's programming are all signs that something might not be right.

Moustaches, ironic or not, are also a warning sign as most perverts have facial hair.

Sitting with Silence

If you sit with silence, either by not singing in the shower or by sleeping without the TV on, you open yourself up to hearing your inner voice.  Thoughts, feelings and memories that are muted throughout the day to day come through loud and clear when you turn off the noise. 

But, more often than not, they're self-defeating thoughts, feelings of worthlessness and molestation memories, so if the cable's out or you're in solitary, try humming loudly.

Denial

Employed by alcoholics and the British for centuries, denial is a life skill more important than street smarts or keyboarding. Believing that Uncle Bobby never "tucked you in funny" and Dad is still alive, you just haven't heard from him in a couple of years, literally takes away the pain. 

Living in denial is like being the mayor of your own Happyville because lying to yourself works. Though emotional eating is a better coping mechanism for life's trauma and drama, diabetes is a bitch.

Memories

Memories are like dreams - you can make them up to suit the situation.  No one can dispute your memories when they're told with conviction or involve molestation.  Stand by your memories with a tear in your eye and the lack of tangible evidence gets magically forgotten, like the middle child.

Let your imagination flourish.  Let past injustices, injuries and victories grow like weeds in your brain garden.  Then harvest the pity, apologies and reimbursements for therapy.
